What moves the price
- Home size and the amount of furniture set the hours, from 2 to 4 for a studio to 4 to 6 for a 1 to 2 bed flat in Fantastic Services' guide.
- Stairs without a lift add 30 to 60 minutes in Compare the Man and Van's guide, and upper floor loading in London took about 20% longer than ground floor.
- Van size: a Luton that takes everything in one trip usually costs less than two runs in a smaller van.
- Crew: two people cost more per hour but often finish sooner, and Checkatrade recommends two for 1 and 2 bedroom moves.
- Distance between the two flats, plus any mileage charged beyond the firm's local radius.
- Parking at each end: a long carry from the nearest legal space adds time at both addresses.

Questions about flat moves
Is it cheaper to move a flat at the weekend?
Usually not. Checkatrade notes that weekend, evening and short-notice bookings may cost more (August 2026). The HomeOwners Alliance found Friday the busiest day, with 29% of moves, so a midweek date is often easier to book (August 2026).
Do I need to book the lift in my block?
Many blocks require it, and some limit moves to set hours. Ask the managing agent well before the day, and tell the firm the lift's size, since a sofa or wardrobe that will not fit has to go by the stairs.
